The moment I decided to share my learnings with the community and empower more sales professionals, I started thinking of a name. A name I would use for my newsletters, webinars, and books. A name that is easy for people to remember. A name that is relatable. A name that has the domain availability. Most importantly, a name that can have secondary meaning and I can own. This idea is inspired by Seth Godin’s blog post on the new rules of naming. Seth calls ‘Starbucks’ a great name. As it is made of two words that have nothing at all to do with coffee.

I never realized naming is hard. Here is the list of names I came up with.

SaaS Sales

Selling SaaS

Sell SaaS

Selling SaaS like Carry

Selling SaaS like Dragon Warrior

Selling SaaS like Milkha

Selling SaaS like Calvin

Selling SaaS like an athlete

Selling SaaS like Saint

Selling SaaS like a Monk

Selling SaaS like a Stoic

Selling SaaS like Simba

You see none of them sounds unique or can have a secondary meaning. Rajan, my co-author of the book came up and said how about ‘SeSa’. He removed the first two letters from Selling SaaS and coined the word ‘SeSa’. I loved it, it sounded unique. I googled it and did not find anything related to SaaS or Sales (except for an Ayurvedic Hair oil, which my mom also never heard of). We felt the name is incomplete and slept over it. Sleeping over a problem or worry or idea can do a great deal of good. After a couple of days, I listed a few more names:

SeSaLabs

SeSaAcademy

SeSaSchool

SeSaLearn

Again, none sounded unique and by adding a word like labs I’m making SeSa unsexy. That is when we came up with the name - SeSaMint. Mint has a couple of connotations - mint: a place where the new coins of a country are made, mint: a herb whose leaves have a strong, fresh smell and taste and are used for giving flavor to food. It fits well with our motto to share the learnings about selling SaaS and empowering people. SeSaMint can help you mint money by Selling SaaS and SeSaMint will give you a fresh spin on everything about Selling SaaS. Fortunately, a domain is available with the name. We slept over it for a day and finally concluded that the name will be SeSaMint. The sound of the name has nothing to do with selling SaaS but it has got everything to do with selling SaaS. I hope that we will own this name for ages and you all like it.

Vanity SaaS vs Value SaaS

Just like there is a Darth Vader & Jedi, Joker & Batman, Voldemort & Harry Potter, there is Vanity SaaS & Value SaaS. In simple terms, Vanity SaaS is spending $6 to earn $1 and Value SaaS is spending $1 to earn $6. Love saying & hearing NO

I dread the word ‘NO’. For a sales person hearing a ‘NO’ is a terrible feeling. Hearing NO felt like a Rocky Balboa punch in the stomach. I used to have sleepless nights when I heard the word ‘NO’ from a prospect or in any business deal. But this book - Never Split the Difference- has changed my perspective about NO and helped my overcome my fear of NO. Here is my favorite piece about NO from the book.

What’s cooking in SeSaMint

I have been secretly working on a project for 3 months now. As a part of the project, I spoke to 15 global SaaS leaders, reviewed different books, spoke to 40+ founders, and reflected on all my learnings in the last 6 years.

Finally, we are launching the ‘SeSaMint - Guide to Selling SaaS First Job’ book tomorrow. For all my newsletter subscribers I’m giving a pre-launch copy at a discounted price.

The book has thousands of dollars worth of frameworks and distilled insights from SaaS leaders that will make you job-ready in selling SaaS. In addition, you will receive an assessment report that every B2B SaaS company uses for assessing entry-level sales candidates that costs $25 (INR 2000) for FREE. Even better, the first 25 buyers also get an additional 30 min 1-1 coaching call with me.

If you want to save yourself the 6 years I spent learning sales firsthand, and not to mention the 50+ hours I spent speaking to global SaaS Sales Leaders on their journey and learnings. Then you need to read SeSaMint Guide to Selling SaaS.

If you have any questions about the guide, just write to me. Happy reading!
