Let’s be real—getting hired as an SDR is tough. But here’s the thing: It’s not because you’re not good enough. It’s because most people don’t understand how hiring works.

Here’s why your applications are falling flat, and what to do about it:

1. You’re Applying Like Everyone Else

Think of job hunting like prospecting. Would you cold-call without researching the lead first? Of course not. So why would you send out applications blindly? Start targeting specific companies. Reach out directly to the hiring manager, send a custom video message, or drop them a thoughtful LinkedIn note. Do your homework. It’s the difference between being ignored and getting noticed.

2. Your Resume Isn’t Your Most Important Asset

Everyone thinks the resume is the ticket, but here’s the truth: Hiring managers care more about how you present yourself online than what’s on paper. If your LinkedIn isn’t optimized, you’re missing out. Engage with content, share your thoughts, and show that you’re serious about the industry. Your LinkedIn is your real resume.

Pro Tip: You won’t get hired or not get hired because of a bad resume.

3. You’re Not Selling Yourself in the Interview

The interview is just like a sales call—except this time, you’re the product. The hiring manager is looking for someone who can handle objections, think fast, and stay calm under pressure. Prepare for role plays, be ready to explain how you’ve dealt with challenges, and show that you can bounce back after rejection. The more real you get, the better.

4. Rejection is Part of the Game

Here’s the hard truth: You will get rejected. It’s not personal. But how you handle that rejection can set you apart. Follow up with a thank-you email. Ask for feedback. It shows maturity and can keep you on their radar for the next opening. Most people drop the ball here—don’t be one of them.

5. You’re Blending In

If you’re sending the same generic application everyone else is, it’s no wonder you’re not hearing back. Customize your outreach. Show that you’ve done your research, understand their company, and have ideas for how you can help. Stand out, don’t blend in.
